I have not taken the time to look to see what this rescue was all about, until one of the danes we got from them had to be put down last week. We had the dog for several years but had terrible health problems and must of been much, much older than they claimed.
I am not going to name names or disclose my identity because of legal reasons, but I will say the dane bit somebody when they came to the door. We lost our homeowner's insurance because of it. We may be able to get it now that he is put to sleep. We tried our best to get the dog in better health, but he was very aggressive, in poor health and we had absolutely no background information on him.
Now reading the other testimony here, maybe I am not a bad owner after all. And in all my years of having dogs, I never once seen a dog bite somebody. It was scary, embarrassing and I felt so bad for the person the dog decided to bite. The person was not happy and rightfully warned people around us not to come to the door. I now have to tell others it is safe because the dog has been put down. I tried my best to train him. They claimed they were trained. I felt I was responsible. Looks like I was not alone in this sentiment.
We also got three other dogs from them, but I will not name all the breeds because it may give my identity away, but I will say the Mastiff is not in good shape either. We have spent untold thousands of dollars in vet bills for tumors, a blown knee and pain. She was also very, very skinny when we got her, and is still skittish today, but in much better shape. However, she is still on the scared side. Now I can see reading this web site.
Back then, I bought into the hype, they seemed like responsible people, and we were so exited to have a dog. I even ignored the filthy house, yard, and long wait time. We spent 8+ hours there. We also paid several thousand dollars in adoption fees. I figured at the time they were well-cared for (I was no dog expert, but after caring for these dogs several years later, I have gotten better) so I figured it was worth it. It was not. It is a scam and at the expense of lives. Looking back, I feel like such a fool.
Now broke, without insurance, and a bad reputation of having an unruly dog, I can safely say things are not doing so great right now. I am very lucky the person who got bitten did not sue for more, but this person could have. I was in regular contact and cooperated every step of the way. This person was still not happy and rightfully so.
This rescue needs to be shut down. Do not buy the hype and do your homework before getting any dog from any place. I had to learn the hard way, and you may end up like us if you do decide to adopt from there.
